ADVENT 2015 is far more than four frenetic weeks of shopping leading up to a few self-indulgent Christmas festivities.  No, ADVENT  prepares us by word and sacrament to celebrate Christ’s first coming and live as his friends and disciples in a world which so needs light and hope, justice and peace and love. This is how we await Christ’s  second coming at the end of time.

DECEMBER

YEAR OF MERCY   Pope Francis has designated the year ahead a “Year
Mercy” to  run from Tuesday 8th December [The Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception] to the beginning of Advent 2016.

The Holy Father has written a special Year of Mercy prayer [copies available as you leave Mass this week-end] which urges us to make this a reality in our own lives. Jesus said to his disciples ‘Whoever sees me sees the Father’ and so our God manifests his divine power and presence above all by forgiveness and mercy revealed to us in the face of Jesus Christ.   Pope Francis prays…. “Let the Church be your visible face in the world today “.
We are encouraged to celebrate the year with various liturgical, devotional and spiritual events and so we will begin with a Holy Hour before 7.30pm Mass on Tuesday 8th invoking Our Lady’s help as we adore her Son and find comfort in his mercy and grace.  There will the opportunity to celebrate the Sacrament of Reconciliation during the Holy Hour.

Thursday 17th  SENIOR CITZENS’ CHRISTMAS DINNER at the Glenbervie Golf Club. 1.30pm for 2pm.  If you wish to attend this, please add your name to the list on the Notice Board.

“True to the End “ is a book by one of our parishioners, Joe Quinlivan on the austere living conditions in rural Ireland and experiences and effects of emigration from Ireland during the middle of the last century. A fascinating memoir including insights into the construction industry. Copies of Joe’s book will be available after Mass over the next few Sundays, price £12 per copy.
