OTHER NEWS

GOING ON HOLIDAY? - BOYCOTT THE MALDIVES.  Catholics in the Maldives have few rights, but now, the government is ignoring the law, leaving Christians in an even more vulnerable state. One-third of all lawyers suspended, Muslims banned from becoming Christians, 50 Maldivians arrested and tortured being suspected of having become Christians. Any Maldivian even found to have a Bible in their house faces a prison sentence. Any comments against “any tenet of Islam is being criminalised. Catholics suffer because of laws preventing them openly living as Christians, and now the government is simply ignoring even the few legal freedoms they do have. [by e-mail from Brian McKenna]
