Sacraments

The Sacrament of the Sick

Please advise Fr John if you or an elderly or infirm relative is sick at home or about to enter hospital, so that he can arrange for you to receive the sacraments of healing which bring such comfort and succour to us when we are ill.

Baptism

If your family is preparing to welcome a new child please contact Father John as soon as possible to arrange for baptism.

As you would appreciate, appropriate preparation must be made and this normally involves, at least, your attendance at a meeting held eleven days prior to the celebration of the Sacrament. Infant baptisms are normally celebrated by arrangement with Fr John.

Confirmation and First Communion for Children

Sacraments of Reconciliation, Confirmation, and First Holy Communion for children:

The Sacrament of Reconciliation is now prepared for during the Spring session in Primary 3.

The Sacrament of First Holy Communion is celebrated in the Spring session of Primary 4.

The Sacrament of Confirmation is celebrated in the Spring session of Primary 7.

Preparation involves :

• various liturgical ceremonies (normally at Sunday 10.30 a.m. Mass) for the children and their families

• weekday evening gatherings for parents to help them reflect on their faith and share it with their children.

• Educational preparation for the children, which takes place in our Catholic primary schools. (If any child looking to receive Confirmation or First Communion does not attend a Catholic school, parents should contact Fr John).

Sacrament of Reconciliation

The peace of mind and soul which this sacrament imparts to us is one for which there is no substitute.

It is a peace that flows from a certainty, rather than from an unsure hope, that our sins have been forgiven and that we are right with God.

Marriage

Couples intending to marry must give at least 6 months’ notice to the parish clergy.

During the time before the wedding, couples are expected to meet with the parish priest at various intervals and also take part in preparation provided by Scottish Marriage Care, (Telephone: 638426).
